Sir Paul Smith wasn't always a 'Sir', or a fashion designer for that matter. After becoming injured due to a cycling accident, he became involved in fashion design. He enjoyed it so much that he set up a shop in 1970, selling an eclectic mix of clothes which he produced himself. He has both a men's and a women's range; all classics with a twist, featuring his famous rainbow pinstripe pattern. His designs include clothing, accessories, shoes and even home furnishings and china, all featuring the rainbow pinstripe pattern emblem. The style is contemporary and quirky, drawing inspiration from a number of influences, based on designs and influences found by travelling.
Although Sir Paul Smith produces a wide range of products, they all have something in common- his trademark pinstripe logo, his quirky take on classic style, and his attention to detail. Items still have the personal touch- fabrics are hand-picked by Paul himself, for example, and he works closely with the items during every stage of production. The range by Paul Smith can best be described as classics with a twist; staple pieces such as shirts, trousers, watches and shoes with a modern influence.
